Call for Arrangers

Do you enjoy composing or arranging music?  Do you dream of having a full symphonic orchestra play your masterpiece to an adoring crowd?  Then your dream might come true sooner than you think, because the Harvard Pops is seeking a new arranger!

If you've been to any of our concerts, you know that our repertoire varies widely.  At any given performance we play a charmingly eclectic mix of classical music, movie scores, show tunes, and popular songs.  Some recent arrangements that we've performed include "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from the movie Mulan and "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire.  As you might imagine, not all of these songs are easy to obtain in orchestral form - which is why we rely on intrepid student arrangers like you to make them happen.

If we take you on, we will ask you to arrange one to two songs for us per semester.  They are typically written for rock bands, so it will take a bit of pluck, spunk, and imagination on your part to expand them into orchestral works. The songs will probably be no longer than three to five minutes in length.

Submission Requirements: prepare one (1) arrangement of a song of your choice for voice and full orchestra.  The arrangement need not cover the entire song; rather, it should go only once through the verse and once through the chorus.  Candidates are also welcome to submit up to two (2) additional works from their portfolios that they feel would be relevant, but this is NOT required.

Send all materials by Sunday, August 21 in PDF form to harvardpops@gmail.com.  Also feel free to contact us at that address with any questions you might have.
